Welcome to the Junior Unit Homepage!

Welcome to the Junior Unit homepage! Our unit consists of eight grade one/two classes and approximately 170 students. The teachers of the Junior Learning Unit include Abby Ling (team leader), Teresa Soulsby, Breanna White, Andrew Thomas, Luke Warren, Stacey Henemann, Lisa Neville and Andrea Rolland. Marcelle Rose and Lisa White provide support for special needs programs across the Unit. Jenni Koehler works as a Curriculum Coach with the Junior Learning Unit. This involves working with the unit to support them with their planning and classroom teaching.

The teachers within the Junior Learning Unit have a great flair for quality classroom teaching and are very enthusiastic. We aim to provide a learning environment that is safe, supportive and challenging. We feel that it is important to know the students that we teach well, so that the potential of each child is recognised and all students feel supported in their learning. We place considerable emphasis on factors relating to warmth and rapport, and treating all students as individuals. We work hard to provide learning activities that are meaningful and that cater for individual needs and abilities.

The Junior curriculum covers a variety of subject areas including Literacy, Numeracy, Deep Knowledge and the You Can Do It Program. Each class participates in a two hour Literacy session each day where they develop their skills in Reading, Writing and Oral Language (Speaking and Listening). A one hour Numeracy session occurs daily covering topics under the strands of Number, Space, Measurement and Working Mathematically. Deep Knowledge units covering all other areas of the curriculum are also studied throughout the year.

The students also participate in specialist classes which include Art, Library, Computer Lab, Physical Education, Music, Drama and French (L.O.T.E).
