Art

Every grade has an hour of art each week in the art room. The classes are taken by two specialist art teachers: Ruth Hayes and Edna Sweetten.
We encourage the students to use their imagination and creativity while developing their skills and techniques in all the areas of art. Throughout the year we cover the areas of painting, printing, threads and textiles, modelling, construction, collage, drawing and design.
A variety of materials are used to create 2D or 3D pieces of art work based on a themes relating to the Deep Knowledge Units of each of the four learning units ( Prep, Junior, Middle and Senior}.
We also recognise special events such as Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day and Christmas and every four years The Olympic Games.
We also become involved in community activities and each year have a display in the Education Pavilion at the Geelong Show. We work closely with the school librarian and do a variety of art work related to the short listed books for Book Week.
In the creative environment of the art room, the students enjoy creating and making their art work while exploring their imagination and developing their art techniques.
Library
The library at Bellaire Primary School houses many resources for staff, students and parents. The Middle Learning Unit and Senior Learning Unit classes are taken by Debra Brown. The Prep Learning Unit and the Junior Learning Unit library classes are taken by the classroom teacher.
We have 15 computers for student use during lessons and forty one at lunchtimes, which includes those in the computer lab. The library is the centre for an educational program that supports and stimulates students as they develop beneficial skills for life long learning.
A love of reading for enjoyment, along with regular borrowing habits, is nurtured in the students over their time at Bellaire. We have a rich selection of books for all tastes and ages of students. Involvement in the Premier's Reading Challenge is strongly encouraged at our school and is supported through the library. The Children's Book Council "Book of the Year Awards" and "Book Week" are celebrated in various ways each year.
The library resources support and enrich the classroom programs. Senior and Middle classes engage in research activities in the library for one hour a week based on our school Deep Knowledge Units. Prep and Junior students also have a weekly session in the library with their teachers. They have a chance to borrow books and enjoy a shared story reading session. The library is also a warm and inviting place for students to come to at a number of lunchtimes each week. Many students can be seen on the computers, reading, drawing and playing board games in a relaxed and friendly multi-aged environment. Senior student monitors also assist with some library tasks at lunchtime.
French
Bonjour. Ca va? Christine Windle is our French teacher.
The French program at Bellaire Primary School is planned for the development of communication skills and a cultural knowledge and awareness.
With guidance, repetition and participation, the children build a bank of phrases, questions, answers and vocabulary.
- Activities used to achieve this are songs, poems, games, videos, stories, computers, drawing, tracing and reading.
- At various levels children learn about France, some of the buildings, some of the customs, the countryside, the people and things that France has 'given to the world'.
Physical Education
The school also employs two Physical Education teachers. Each Unit participates in one hour of specialist physical education as well as class sport.
Music and Drama
Music and drama are also run by specialist teachers. Each class participates in a half an hour session each fortnight.
