Support at every stage
Whether a child is starting school, moving into a new year level or preparing for secondary school, we build familiarity, connection and confidence before the change occurs.
Starting School: Prep
Starting school is a big step. Our transition-to-school program helps children become familiar with Bellaire and gives families the information they need for a confident start.
- Orientation sessions: children explore the school, meet staff and begin building friendships.
- Parent information evenings: families learn about routines, expectations and ways to support the transition.
- Buddy program: each Prep student is paired with an older buddy, or sometimes multiple buddies, who provides guidance and friendship during their first year.
Year-Level Transitions
Moving to a new year level brings excitement and new challenges. We help students understand what comes next and establish connections before the new year begins.
- Meet the Teacher: students meet their upcoming teacher and become familiar with their new learning environment.
- Step-Up: students participate in activities that introduce the expectations and routines of the next year level.
- Family communication: key information is shared to help families support the transition at home.
Secondary School
The move to secondary school is an important milestone. Bellaire works with local secondary schools to help our Year 6 students feel informed, prepared and confident.
- Information sharing: relevant information is shared with receiving secondary schools to support continuity.
- Orientation days: students participate in transition and orientation opportunities at their future schools.
- Additional support: further transition support may be provided for students who need it.
Some children need a little more support with change
We recognise that transitions can feel different for every student. Our staff work with children and families to understand individual needs and provide the right level of preparation and support.
